Lymington Remembrance Walk 2022
Donation protected
The Lymington Remembrance, or Poppy walk started in 2020. Due to the Covid19 pandemic, many remembrance day events up and down the country, including the one in Lymington, were severely restricted.
I decided that year, rather than just pitching up at the memorial with one or two others, I would visit as many memorials in the area as possible, whilst at the same time raising money for veterans charities, The RBL and the Pilgrim Bandits.
Starting at Milford memorial hospital and visiting Keyhaven, St Mark's Pennington, Boldre memorial hall, South Baddesley memorial, eventually arriving at Lymington memorial. for the 11am service.
That first year raised almost £500..... So on to 2021, should I do it again ? One or two asked were I doing it again and if so, could they join in and come along.... and there the idea was born, to include up to 20 walkers and make it happen.
That year 2021 we also extended the walk to include Boldre Church, making it a nice round number of 21kms in 2021.... Nice and uniform lol.... With a little bit of publicity, our walk attracted the attention of both BBC Radio Solent and BBC South news, with a great piece on the radio and BBC news coverage and interviews with some of our walkers on the day, instantly making 1 or 2 local characters famous lol..... The fundraising that year achieved a remarkable £4600....all of which was added to the Lymington poppy appeal total and helping it reach a record £26000 plus....
Now ? Well here we are in 2022 and yes we're doing it again.... We'll be increasing the number of walkers to a maximum of 30 and will be sharing the sum raised with at least one other veterans charity as well as the poppy appeal... Thanks for reading this... and a huge thank you to everyone in the community who supports our walk... Lest We Forget.
