This past Christmas Eve, family and friends of Lyle MacDougall were shocked and saddened to learn that he was diagnosed with germ cell cancer. After a regiment of chemotherapy and surgeries earlier this year, coupled with Lyle’s stubborn determination, he recovered and returned to work for a couple of months.
Then on Thanksgiving Day we learned that the cancer was back! This time it’s more aggressive and has spread to his abdomen, lungs and liver. Lyle and his mother Kim Murphy were in Halifax last week meeting with Oncologists and Hematologists and Lyle's best chance is to undergo two rounds of high dose chemotherapy as well as two stem cell transplants. All future treatment will happen at the QEII Health Science Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Beginning next week, Lyle will be an inpatient for many months and Kim will be his caregiver and be with him for the duration of his treatment.

Lyle’s inner strength, stubbornness and the love and support of his family and friends will go a long way towards winning the battle. However, it’s the 2nd time this year that Kim has had to leave work. Ongoing expenses of accommodation, travel, food, living expenses and the cost of drugs not covered by the province; have and will take a toll on family finances. Although “We’ll manage somehow…” is the standard answer to our inquiries; the financial reality inclines us to want to help.

Lyle's father Anthony MacDougall and his spouse Louise MacDonald; along with their son Rhys (Lyle's little brother) are maintaining close watch and good thoughts. Also supporting Lyle (and Kim) is Kim's husband Terry Arsenault. Kim's daughter (Lyle's sister) Lara Murphy and Lara's dad Wayne Murphy are also closely involved in Lyle's progress and wellbeing, during the upcoming battle. Whereas Love, support, helping and caring are vital to a good outcome for Lyle; there is also the practical and very real (expenses) issue that must be addressed.
With that in mind, we ask that you consider making a contribution to this GO FUND ME campaign. Together Lyle’s friends and family and the greater community can “share the load”, so that money problems don’t take the focus off Lyle’s cancer journey and his eventual recovery. For those of us who know and love him: Lyle is an awesome, caring and thoughtful guy and he’s only 27!

Thank you so VERY much for helping to SHARE THE LOAD. Your contribution will not only provide a REAL solution to a REAL problem; but it will also provide comfort and inspiration to Lyle and his family…as they gear up for this next battle. We’re betting on Lyle. God Bless and Thank You.
