Lyla's Medical Bills

[UPDATE 19/09/23]

Lyla had her appointment back with the vet today and the first injection has not worked as well as he had hoped (every dog takes to it differently). She was a very brave girl. We’re going to try another round of spinal injections on Tuesday next week with hopes that a double dose will reduce the inflammation in her spine even more. After this, if the injection does not work, surgery may be the last resort. He told us that the type of surgery she would need is one of the most complex spinal surgeries and is extremely invasive. I’m hoping this next round of injections is enough and surgery is not needed. Another week to wait…

[UPDATE - 14/09/23]

Lyla’s first Epidural Spinal Steroid injection does not seem to have worked for her. She was doing great for only 2-3 days and now she is back in pain again. Our next steps are either a second injection or surgery. Surgery has been quoted £5000-£6000 (lower end) which at the moment I do not have. I’ll have an update on which is next and what is the best solution for Lyla on Tuesday morning (19th Sept) after her appointment with the vet. Any advice would be much appreciated as I’m a bit lost on what to do for her at the moment.

[UPDATE - 05/09/23]

Lyla had has her first Epidural Spinal Steroid injection to help decompress the disc to stop the pressure that is pushing on her nerves. I am hoping this will stop her pain and allow her to walk normally. I have to take her back in 2 weeks to see the vet to see whether she can be signed off or whether she needs another spinal injection or surgery. I will keep adding updates with her progress and next steps x

Lyla is my 7 year old Frenchie-Pug and is my whole world. As some of you may know Lyla has been by my side and my rock since the day I got her at 7 weeks old.

She is currently suffering from pain down the right side of her body and is unable to walk and move properly. I’ve had 3 different vet clinics take a look at her and reached out to many different vets for advice. She’s had x-rays, consultations and different medications and last week (on the 24th Aug) she had an MRI scan. The MRI scan shows that she has Spondylosis (L7-S1) and Lumbosacral Stenosis. This means she has bone spurs that are compressing into the spinal cord causing her discs to be chronically inflamed, causing pressure to her nerves which is why she’s in so much pain.

I’m creating this fundraiser to help with Lyla’s medical bills. Although Lyla is insured, my insurance are refusing to pay out for anything relating to this condition as they have reported it as a pre-existing condition, which they have said is when she sprained her back running when she was 2 years old - which I’ve been told by my vet is not related. Im currently around £3000 in debt from her x-ray, vet consultations, antibiotics, pain killers and MRI scan. My next steps for Lyla is either an Epidural Spinal Steroid injection to help decompress the disc to stop the pressure that is pushing on her nerves which hopefully should stop the pain, my second and option after that is surgery. The injection is going to cost me another £500 and if I choose surgery for her I have been quoted around £5000. Surgery is my absolute last resort for her as this is more intense for her and a lot more after care.

I absolutely hate asking for anything (especially money) but I’m just wanting to make sure my baby is getting all the treatment she needs and so I can afford to pay anything she needs. Anything at all will be truly appreciated.

Thank you, Darcie & Lyla x
