LYLA HAZAN'S MITZVAH PROJECT
Tax deductible
Hi all! For my Mitzvah Project I am raising money for the Community Resource Center of Larchmont and Mamaroneck. In September and October I helped collect, sort and distribute school supplies, backpacks, clothing and food through this organization after many families in our very own community were hit hard by Hurricane Ida and lost their homes!
When I reached out to the Center to tell them that I wanted to dedicate my Mitzvah project to helping local families impacted by Ida they told me that they had already raised over $800,000 for Ida Assistance and were in the process of distributing emergency assistance checks to over 220 Larchmont and Mamaroneck families! I am proud to live in such a giving community.
However, I was saddened to learn that the Community Resource Center was completely destroyed in September! I would like to specifically dedicate my project to rebuilding what is often considered a "second home" to many of our community members.
Jirandy Martinez, the executive director helped me understand how important it is that the Center rebuild. In an email from her she explained that the facilities "are not just a place for our offices: it is where parents come with their children for help in school; it is where a client comes to ask for help when the family’s main bread winner dies from COVID; it is where a young man, newly arrived to the U.S., comes to gain job skills; it is where those seeking opportunity, and giving back their hard labor, take English and citizenship classes; it is where a mother lovingly brings a cake to the staff to thank them for finding her a home; it is the heart of the community it serves."
I hope that you will help me to help the Community Resource Center get back into their homes so that they can continue all of their important work for my friends and neighbors in Larchmont and Mamaroneck.
Thank you!
Love, Lyla
