My name is Emily and I'm writing this for our 9 year old daughter, Lyla, who is just the sweetest little girl. She is diagnosed with CDKL5 deficiency disorder which results in severe neurodevelopmental impairment and difficult to treat seizures.

We have been trying for almost a year to improve her sleeping situation. She sleeps in a bed that has wooden rails so she can't fall out easily, but she has almost daily seizures where her body thrashes and hits them. We can't add pillows or other coverings because she'll chew them and it increases the risk of asphyxiation.

She had a seizure this afternoon while she was napping in her bed, and in the short time it took me to run to her room, she had already smashed her face into the bed rail several times and was face down on the bed covered in blood.

This is a parents' nightmare, to find their child bloody and in pain.

What may have prevented these injuries is a Sleep Safe Bed. It's a bed designed for people with disabilities and medical complexities to reduce risk of harm while they are in bed. There are no gaps to fall through and there are padded sides (no smashing her head into a wooden rail). Extensive research has been done to design these beds and it's exactly what she needs to be safe.

It costs almost $11,000. Our very pricey insurance will only cover half.

We just bought an accessible house so we're stretched.

I absolutely hate to ask for help, but we need to raise about $4000. Seeing her be injured and bleeding in a place that should be her safe space is enough.
