Lyla 1 week post

As many of you may know our sweet Lyla was involved in an accident that left her with a multitude of injuries. We have had a lot of concern, questions regarding the accident and her recovery. Things have been so chaotic that admittedly we have been far from perfect on keeping everyone in the loop. You all deserve it because we can see the love you all share for her. We are so grateful for all the wonderful people who love her as we do.

On Saturday May 27th approximately 8:00 pm Lyla and 3 friends were heading to a friends B day party close by our house. With the two of us not home(Bobbi- Smithfield, Zach-Philippines) they drove our Polaris Ranger as their vehicle of which they have done all the time. By their account about half way their something happened steering wise to make the machine difficult to control. After some back and forth the UTV rolled tossing all four of them out of the vehicle. Immediately Brooklyn(friend) noticed Lyla was trapped under the Ranger. The roll cage was resting directly over her midsection pinning her down face up. After one attempt to lift, Brooklyn rallied the other two to help. With super human strength and angles she lifted the heavy rig enough to allow the others to pull her out from her ankles.

Shook from the accident the girls are then approached by passersby’s and she was quickly rushed to the hospital. It didn’t take long for them to call Life Flight to transport Lyla to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

All appropriate tests and measures were taken at that time to complete the laundry list of hurt.
This includes the following:
Level 5 spleen damage(0/5 scale)
Level 3 liver damage
4 plus broken ribs 1 detached
Bruised lungs
Substantial internal bleeding and air in the abdomen and chest cavity
Stitches under her chin
Mid thoracic spinal fractures
Ect

After 3 days in terrible agony the doctors decided the best route would be surgery. This is not an over site as they say most of the time the body will just absorb the fluids. They performed endoscopic surgery to remove fluids, clean and observe via small camera for any other issues possibly not detected by other tests. This type of surgery is performed using a scope, 3 small incisions,a flexible tube with a camera and light at the tip and tooling. Great news!, this was a perfect success so recovery really begins her.

Day by day her condition improves with her dedication and grit. She is now able to roll on her side and sit up with assistance. A painful process then takes place to put on her large back brace. This is heart wrenching as the nave is intended to support the back but need to wrap around the front for strength(also a broken area)She can transfer to a chair or assisted walk to the bathroom in her room. To clarify he back injuries to not effect any Nero or movement functions and is expected to be a 100 percent recovery. We are seeing more color in her face, more smiles and energy in her eyes every day moving forward.

Lyla is sweet but Lyla is also a fighter. She is fueled by the energy, prayers and love that everyone has unselfishly given her. We both feel that we have never cried, worried, panicked and stress more than this before but most of all we have never felt so much gratitude. Not only gratitude for what could have been worse but gratitude for the love and support you have all given Lyla and our family.

We will do a better job keeping everyone posted on the ongoing recovery as Lyla continues to prove how dedicated she is to being 100% again.
