My name is Lydia Sumrok, and I am a junior at Maryville High School. This year, I have the honor of running for Homecoming Queen. As part of this tradition, each candidate selects a nonprofit organization to support, and the winner is determined by who raises the most funds for their cause.

I have chosen to support No Athlete Left Behind, a Knoxville-based nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that every student athlete has the opportunity to participate in sports regardless of financial barriers. This incredible organization provides equipment, uniforms, and resources to young athletes who may not otherwise be able to afford them. Their mission allows students to experience teamwork, discipline, and growth through athletics—lessons that carry far beyond the playing field.

As a cheerleader, this cause means so much to me personally. Cheer has given me confidence, lifelong friendships, and a strong sense of belonging. I know how important it is for students to have the chance to participate in the sport they love, no matter their circumstances. Supporting No Athlete Left Behind ensures that every child who dreams of being on a team has the opportunity to do so.
