My grandmother, Lydia Pozo, after having been orphaned before she could remember her own parents, grew up to be the type of mother that gave every last fiber of her being for her children and grandchildren. She worked hard to put food on the table, and made all of us feel loved.
For the last few years her health has declined, and two mini-strokes a few years ago, brought on and advanced her dementia. She lost her battle with dementia Sunday February 28th, 2021. She passed in her sleep surrounded by the family that took care of her day in and day out.
A devout Catholic, lover of salsa music, and of Walter Mercado, she was vibrant, loving, and a tough cookie. What she lacked in height, she made up for in strength.
She raised me from the age of 3 months, on her own, and against great odds. She kept our family together even when it felt like we were falling apart. Calling her our matriarch doesn't begin to describe her mettle. She was the motivating force for my entire life. I carry her love, laughter, and joy, and share it in everything I do.
I know that times are tough for everyone, and although we knew the end was inevitable, there truly never is enough time, or funds to prepare for something like this, especially when you come from where we come from.
Funds will be used immediately for a viewing, funeral home expenses, family travel, and any odds and ends that come with end of life services.
Please give what you can so we can put her to rest properly during these uncertain times.
From all of my family, I thank you.
