Lydia Pettigrew of Salinas, CA, desperately needs your help. Her lung and heart are failing her, requiring a double organ transplant. On May 12, 2022, Lydia was admitted to Stanford. She is kept alive with an ECMO machine that oxygenates and purifies her blood as the experts diagnose and treat her. The ECMO machine is similar to the heart-lung by-pass device used in open-heart surgery. It pumps and oxygenates a patient's blood outside the body, allowing the heart and lungs to rest. She is also going through dialysis since her liver is struggling as well. After the double lung and heart transplant, extensive rehab follows for 4 to 5 months. At this time, Lydia will stay in an apartment close to the Hospital.
Lydia is a wife, mother of two, and a recent grandmother to little Sabrina. She is fighting for her life to watch her beloved granddaughter grow up and for all her loved ones. In the past, Lydia has opened her home to help others in need without wanting anything in return. Lydia has been able to give others a feeling of safety and hope. Lydia and Terry raised labradors, and my family is blessed with one of their litter's puppies. These charming puppies, raised with only love and compassion, brought happiness to many households besides our own. Lydia is a dedicated employee of Safeway, has worked with the organization for over 30 years, and is a pillar community citizen of Salinas. I am pretty sure if you are a resident of Salinas, you know of the Pettigrew family.
Lydia must remain in intensive care until she receives the organs she needs, followed by long-term rehabilitation. The bills are overwhelming for the family when the primary focus should be on Lydia. Any monetary assistance you can contribute to Lydia’s care would be a massive godsend to this family. With rising gas prices, the commute to and from Stanford is costly. Terry, Lydia’s husband of 27 years, has no choice but to keep working to pay the bills. He cannot stay continually by his wife’s side to provide the love, encouragement, and hope essential to her well-being. Hopefully, with your help, they will celebrate their 28th Wedding Anniversary together on July 30th.
