Lyana Rivera started developing a cold in the beginning of January that progressed into a severe sinus infection. After 2 weeks of sickness, an unbearable migraine, and the inability to fully open her eyes, Lyana’s mom, Jenny, made the decision to take Lyana to the emergency room. The infection invaded her frontal sinus bone and spread to the epidural area- right outside of her brain. This caused an abscess that needed to be removed during emergency surgery. Her recovery was lengthy but went as planned. She is now expected to have another surgery to fix her compromised sinus structure to prevent this from happening again.

Lyana had to stay home from attending her first year at Carthage College this semester and put her job at Studio Stÿl on hold. Jenny is a single mom to not only Lyana but her sister Amaya who will be starting grad school this summer. She is working as many hours she can all while supporting her girls and would never ask for help. Any contribution big or small will make a significant difference in easing the financial burden.
