Ly Siv Luu memorial- for education in Cambodia

Donation protected

Dear family and friends,

Our beloved mother, Ly Siv Luu (Chinese spelled "Lao") left this world on 6/16/2021. She was at peace and was comforted by her children and grandchild after a battle with liver cancer.

Ly was born in Moung Reussei, in the Battambang province of Cambodia. She survived the Cambodian genocide of the 1970s, and immigrated to the US in 1988. She built a life in America and single-handedly raised three children who now carry her legacy. Ly was a compassionate and selfless person who showed nothing but love to everyone she met. She had a passion for travel and cooking and was fiercely independent. She also had a propensity for languages, speaking and writing Khmer, Teochew, Mandarin, Cantonese, and English. Throughout her life, she has always put tremendous value on learning and education.

With that, we have decided to start this GoFundMe to accept donations that would go towards schooling and education in her home province of Battambang. We're still communicating with family in the area to understand how to best utilize the funds, but the intent is to help provide education for children in the rural, war-torn, underserved parts of Battambang, Cambodia. There are organizations that already do this, such as Cambodian School Project (cambodianschoolproject.org), whose focus is in the Siem Reap area. As a conscious choice, we're looking to focus on her hometown. We have inquired about this with the Cambodian School Project. If anyone has any other organizations that they would recommend, please reach out to us directly. We will update this once we have more clarity around how we will distribute the funds.

Please do not feel obligated to donate here either. If you have a charity of your own that you would prefer to donate to, please do so. Mom would love that as well. She was always a compassionate giver to any cause.

Lastly, mom had the greenest thumb. She loved growing vegetables and herbs. As one of her last wishes, she asked us to plant trees at the local temple for her, which we've already done. If you would like to plant a tree for her, she would love that. She especially loved fruit trees and flowering trees.

Ly was a beloved mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children and children-in-law - Tola & Lena, Vicki & Craig, and Tony & Ashley, as well as her grandson Daniel.

Thank you all for your love, support, energy, and prayers.
