IIn 1999 we heard those terrible words, “You have Cancer”. As our family and friends know that was a terrible time. Verne was going thought chemo and somehow got e-coli. He went more than a week with a fever over 107 degrees, He was in intensive care for 28 days and in a rehab center for almost a month.  We received a hospital bill of over $650,000.00. We were fortunate though because we did have medical insurance and out cost was $47,000.00.

Over the last 16 years, Verne has gone through numerous treatments for his cancer, and was able to maintain part of his way of life; he was able to go back to work. He then got injured at work in 2008 and had to go through several surgeries and through all of it he lost his ability to have a full time job and his medical insurance, as we could not afford to pay the $850.00 cobra premium. So his treatments and checkup went on Credit Cards. We have struggled to make sure all the medical cost have been paid and all of our bills have taken back seat to the medical bills.

In October 2016 we heard those words again “You have Cancer” this time it is prostate and it is outside the prostate.  Verne is now on Medicare but, it only pays 80% and he does have a supplement but, it does not cover all of his radiation. Radiation is $750.00 a day and he is going 5 days a week and will continue for a total of 9 weeks. Our share of that cost is $125.00 a day for a total of $625.00 a week; this does not include the CT Scans, Specialist, and all the other cost on top of the radiation.

We have always been the first ones there when someone needed help; now we are asking for your help to help us pay these medical bills and the Credit Card debt that all this has incurred. We are about ready to lose our home of 35 years, it does not seem right that you work hard all your life, and try to help everyone you can just to have everything you have worked for is about to go away of no fault of your own but, because that word “CANCER” is part of your life.
