Luz del Futuro Girls Gymnastics
Donation protected
I am a 20 year, part time, resident of San Pancho, Nayarit, Mexico. Just 40 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, San Pancho is a small village surrounded by ocean, jungle and mountains. A pristine beach, warm weather, terrific restaurants and a varied cultural life along with wonderful people make this hard to beat. Recently a friend asked me to help her raise money to fund a new project for the young girls of our community and I feel like a gift has been dropped into my lap.
We are raising money for Luz del Futuro (Future Light) Gymnastics Club which started in April, 2016. This is a grass roots, hands on, volunteer program fueled by the passion of one woman, Senora Luz Islas, to better the lives of young girls. There are no administrative costs, no salaries.
Senora Luz teaches two classes an afternoon, four days a week. She has 22 students between the ages of 6 and 12. If families are able, they donate $50 pesos (less than $3 US) per week for their daughter. There are quite a few families that are unable to afford this cost and for Senora Luz that is fine too, she makes room for everyone in her classes.
Senora Luz's goals are to teach self esteem, discipline, focus, teamwork and encourage exercise. Through gymnastics and dance these young girls may have an opportunity to get a scholarship for education past primary school or they will learn tools that can help them in making a living.
With only two 13 year old tumbling mats, one hand made balance beam and a make shift spring board we need funds to buy these girls equipment.
The money raised will be used to purchase;
20 tumbling mats, one gymnastics trampoline, one balance beam, one set of uneven bars, parallel bars and paint for the interior of the gym. The sooner we can raise this money the sooner we will be able to make a difference in these young girl's lives by giving them tools for opportunity
Thank you very much for reading this and considering a gift.
