Hi, I’m John Rapheal Bailey, and I began cultivating my hairstyling talents beginning at the age of 14. My dream to open my own salon lead me down a challenging road, but I have persevered through every challenge along the way and now want to begin my greatest work. My early interest in cosmetology lead me to attending several cosmetology schools in my local area as well as obtaining my license. I experienced a very difficult education because, alongside many others, there were institutional barriers that failed to create the consistent professional environments that we needed to promote and cultivate our talent, rather, as a rule we faced roadblocks which were the result of unprofessional and predatory practices that prevent these schools from fulfilling their mission statements for so many individuals. Although I succeeded as an early prodigy, it was against the pressures instigated through these educational institutions that saw a perpetual cycle of failure amongst its students as a business cycle to exploit. While I dealt with my educational challenges, I simultaneously developed an acclaim within my local community for the services that I provided them. Now as a licensed professional of 3 years, I am ready to venture forth to build on my strengths, gain experience, as well as improve my community.
Supporting my dream creates a real impact both economically and culturally in Raleigh. I cultivated my vision and dream for a long period of time. Each successful step energized me to pursue the next one with more vigor. Along the way I gained the needed experience to run my own business, to specifically run a salon, and manage all of the challenges that arise from these two jobs. I am destined to become great, because my talent and my ambition will not allow me to settle for any less than this. Any leader realizes when the time to ask for help is at hand, and today I am asking everyone to support and fundraise my dream so that I can use our collective contribution to create new value in my community. Everyone supporting my dream supports a multiplier effect on my community with new jobs and premium services that become available on the first day that we open shop.
We are part of such a rich, vibrant, amazing community. All of the offers of support and encouragement so far have been overwhelming and heart-warming. Many people have been asking how they can help, right now donating to this startup fund will enable us to launch this project!
