If you didn’t, it’s something you should know. NYC’s homeless animals are being executed daily for time, space and an epidemic the NYC
Department of Health (which controls the Animal Care & Control) chooses to ignore. Your tax dollars are paying for this while the AC&C benefits from it. While the AC&C is conducting its scheme of systematic slaughter, it’s deluding the public - YOU - into thinking that it provides care and shelter to NYC’s abandoned and discarded animals and it does not!! The AC&C wants you to believe that in its care your abandoned pets find
new lives, but what they find is abuse, neglect, injuries, despair and the ‘care’ depicted in the picture above.
Every single year, the AC&C executes thousands of dogs and cats, not because they’re unadoptable, but because of a shortage of space, for
an epidemic easily cured with medications (which you’re already paying for) and because NYC considers homeless animals pests.
What’s happening to these innocent animals could one day happen to you. Think about this.
Please know that the NYC Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene, Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services (DOHMH) controls the Animal
Care & Control (AC&C). Mayor Bill de Blasio promised to remove the DOHMH from control of the AC&C but it was given back to them. This needs to be revoked so comptroller Stringer’s plans for reform can go into effect. In addition, the mayor has not repealed the NYCHA ban on dogs over
25 lbs. that get ejected from their homes and end up in the shelters. Perfect dogs are being dumped and killed. (From Bill de Blasio’s campaign ‘vision’ for New York’s animals): “AC&C, the organization that runs the NYC shelter system under contract with the city, has not been effectively achieving it’s mission of rescuing and caring for and finding loving homes for the city’s homeless and abandoned animals. Following recommendations outlined in Borough President Scott Stringer’s 2013 report on Animal Care and Control, Bill de Blasio will restructure the organization as an independent non-profit...” ”Hello mayor, the kids are watching and learning from you how our city values life.”
Too often dogs are released to the public not neutered or spayed. Requiring people to leave a $150 deposit on the condition that they return to have their pet neutered is not a deterrent to dog fighters that never return. There’s a greater profit to be made from dog fighting. Many don’t return simply due to laziness. A key point is that any new shelters built will inevitably overflow twice as fast without the spay/neuter enforcement and follow up. It should also be understood that the terms “euthanasia” and “shelter” are being violated by law. Dogs are killed as soon as 2-5 days after intake before the medicine starts to take effect. Many dogs are killed for being scared during an unfair evaluation that contradicts the behavioral notes of the volunteers who brought out the best in the dogs. The pathetic plight of homeless cats falls into a realm of abject neglect, incarceration that results in cage aggression akin to human “cabin fever,” and isolation and the kind of fear that brings out the worst in animal behavior through terror and confusion. The Trap, Neuter, Release (known as TNR) program for cats seems not to be honored.
NYS and NYC government are well aware of the scheme of slaughter being conducted at the AC&C and were served with petitions demanding shelter reform, as promised by Mayor de Blasio in 2014. These petitions (referenced below) contain the signatures of 25,054 and 5,836 people, respectively, and have been totally ignored. There would seem to be probable cause to warrant an investigation because of growing evidence that the bodies get sold to rendering companies and end up in things like soap and dog food, and there is profit to be made there. There is a rendering plant in NYC. Also notable is that the chief vet at AC&C, Lisa Levins, was a vivisectionist before.
Your voices, loudly sounded upon NYS and NYC government could save many lives and hold a Mayor to his promise.
Please use them because decent people that work hard for their money should not be compelled to finance murder.
In April 2015, Dogs killed: 82, Cats killed: 43.
