Help Keep the Luths Afloat!

Chris and Melissa have pledged their lives and careers to public service and give unwavering support to the community around them. If you are among the lucky who are a part of their community, they have undoubtedly supported you at some point. If you have ever been in need – in any way – I guarantee they were there for you. If you haven’t needed them yet, you will someday. But right now it’s our turn to lift up the Luth family and get them back on their feet.
On the weekend of July 18th, San Diego was hit with the remnants of Hurricane Dolores which brought a downpour of rain to our otherwise drought-ridden ground. For most of us it was a wet weekend, but for the Luth family it was catastrophic. A flash flood overtook the streets of their Ramona neighborhood. Without notice a torrent of water and mud tore down the hill, washed out the vacant land above/adjacent to their lot, and rushed down their driveway to overtake their home. Within minutes their entire home was ankle-deep in water. The propane tank began to float away. The backyard pool was unrecognizable, buried under inches of mud, water, and silt. Mud overtook the HVAC unit, dryer vent, and even filled the inside of the dryer. The force of Mother Nature was no match for the otherwise solid home, and within minutes they were overcome. Upholstery was wrecked, and wooden fixtures like cabinets and vanities were devastated.

So many of us have seen Melissa’s diligent Facebook updates and mercilessly asked what we can do to help. This is exactly how we can help. Please give. Give whatever amount you are able to help this family get back on their feet.
The Luths are responsible people who have saved for a ‘rainy day’, but early estimates on restoration of their home are in the $100,000 range and at this point it looks like insurance will not supplement. If we all give what we can, collectively we can make a huge difference for this family. 100% of the donations collected here will be used for the restoration of their home and rebuilding of their lives. Even if insurance does come through at some point, it will be months before they see those supplements, and expenses are growing by the day. Here is a sample of what your contribution will support:
· Restoration service removing mold/flooring and drying out the home
· Equipment rental for clearing mud/landscaping
· Temporary housing rental while the home is uninhabitable
· Storage of salvaged furniture/possessions
· Pool pumping and replacement of filtration system
· Replacement of appliances that were destroyed
… and this doesn’t even begin to cover the rebuilding of their home!

Let’s show this family what this community can do for them.
The same community they support and give back to each day – the same friends and family they would go to the ends of the earth for. We will continue to post updates on this page of where they are in the restoration process and share where your contributions are spent. It is my dream for them that they get to spend the holidays in their home this year, but it’s going to take a lot of work (and money) to realize that goal.
Thank you in advance for your support, your sharing, and your concern for this amazing family.
