Kidney Transplant for Teacher and Mom

Our mother, Audra Johnson Grant, needs your help. Mom was born in South Carolina to military parents (both passed in their 50s) and raised in Phenix City, AL. She is fighting to get back to a normal life. Our mother has battled Lupus and Kidney failure since 1999. She is recovering from a transplant after the first attempt failed last year.

**Why We Need You:**

- Chronic Illness forced mom to stop her dream as an elementary school teacher
- Lupus and Kidney Failure disrupted our family; years of medical expenses/debt
- Our mom put years into helping many students and their families, and she wants to recover fully and get back to serving others
- Eyesight compromised (still can see) due to side effects of medication
- Constantly traveling for treatment; specialized healthcare became more available after moving to Georgia
- Multiple rounds of Chemo (extreme nausea, permanent hair loss) to stabilize lupus flares
- 14 surgeries, several hospitalizations, and neurological treatment
- Major side effects from treatment/medications include memory loss, brain fog, compromised vision, dizziness, bone chilling cold
- 9 hours of daily dialysis for over a decade and subsequent treatment
- Lab results on 09 October 23 were not favorable, as the doctors have instructed mom to eat as many calories as possible to gain weight after not eating for weeks basically due to extreme pain and nausea. She could not even keep water down.

**What has been done?**

- Fully adjustable bed purchased already; forced to sleep on her back with feet and head up
- Contacted a ministry that builds Tiny homes to reduce monthly expenses going forward
- Prescription assistance application submitted
- We have opportunities with a cook team to raise funds
- Automatic lift chair selected
- Family already has a van with automatic lift; reapplying for accessible parking privileges.
- Connection with family of organ donor with the deepest thanks
- Families have to agreed to sell at flea markets and events to raise funds

I've finished undergraduate school in pursuit of a Dr. of Physical Therapy degree, my younger brother is in high school,

Over the years we have tried to bear this alone, and it led to bankruptcy. We have worked hard to keep unusual debt under control. We have a total of about $183, 000. We would like to raise at least $58, 000 of the $183, 000.

Mom is on this journey to restore her life. It will require divine intervention, your help, the expertise of her medical teams, and emotional therapy. It will take all the strength our mother has to get through this phase, and we need your connections and financial support for her current and future medical expenses as she courageously recovers.

Students love my mom, and we would like to see her get her back to a normal life after battling for so many years. Even though she had to do hours and hours of dialysis daily, she showed up for her students and their families until she could no longer.

**How Can You Join our Mother's Journey?**

1. **Donate**: All contributions are needed and appreciated.
2. **Share**: Strengthen our need for help. Share our story with everyone.
3. **Love and good energy**: In the toughest times, we need strength from as many of you as possible.

Thanks for your consideration,

Cameron Blake
