Hi Family and Friends!
I am raising money for a lovely lady named Lupita Vera born 4-24-1976. I met her a few years ago. She is one my colleague's adopted sister.
First and foremost, I want to say she is one of the sweetest people I have ever met, and knowing her condition makes me admire her even more.
A little background:
She is 43 years old born in San Juan, Texas. She was initially raised by her grandmother then was given back to her mother at the age of 5. At which time, she experienced severe abuse in many ways from more than 1 family member. The details of which I am not going to go into. It is allot more extensive. At 12, she was given up for adoption.
After childhood, she got married. At 35 Her husband was then deported back to Guatemala where he was murdered due to the severity of violence in that country. She has 2 kids, ages 19 and 11.
Her Illnesses:
Lupita is blind in both eyes. The left eye due to complications from diabetes and the other from an accident in May of this year where her cornea detached from her eye socket. It was already in bad shape because of diabetic complications. Both of these conditions can be fixed. She also had her left foot amputated last month. And to top that off, she has lung and heart conditions that have been affecting her for years.
Her financial Situation:
She is obviously not able to support herself financially especially now that she is temporarily blind in both eyes. Her medicaid was also recently taken away from her disability check. and she has a young daughter that she supports with every penny she gets from the government.
What we Need:
The left eye is fixable with lasik surgery of a cost of a little over a thousand. The right eye might require a more complicated and costlier procedure. We are currently getting that info. Those are my main concerns as well as her getting a surgical boot so that she can fully use her left foot.
