Hi everyone,
We are Luis, my wife, and our two beautiful daughters, Lupita and Mariapaz. Two years ago, we left Colombia and came to Australia with a dream: to give our girls the opportunity to see the world from a different perspective and learn English through full immersion. Since then, we’ve completely fallen in love with this country—its people, its culture, and the kindness we've received along the way.
One of the things that has truly amazed us is how thorough and professional Australian dentists are. Every visit is taken seriously, and thanks to this, we discovered that both of our daughters have a condition called chalky teeth, which makes them much more prone to cavities than other kids their age. Before coming to Australia, we had no idea about this condition, and now we understand why their teeth have been so fragile.
On top of that, they both need orthodontic treatment, including extractions. Lupita, our oldest, has been in constant pain, and she urgently needs a tooth removed. Unfortunately, one of her most affected teeth is a permanent tooth, and extracting it incorrectly could be traumatic for her. To ensure she receives the best care, the procedure needs to be done under general anesthesia, which significantly increases the cost.
The total expense for their dental care, including Lupita’s anesthesia, is approximately $10,500 AUD—a cost we simply weren’t prepared for. As parents, we’re doing everything we can to cover these expenses, but being here on a student exchange program means we don’t have a strong financial or support network yet. Part of this journey has been about building a new community, but this unexpected challenge has made things difficult.
Despite these obstacles, we remain incredibly grateful to be in Australia and to have met such wonderful people along the way. This country has already given us so much, and we hope that through this campaign, we can get the help we need to provide the best care for our daughters.
So, we’re reaching out to this amazing community for support. Any contribution, big or small, will bring us closer to giving our girls the treatment they need. And if you can’t donate, simply sharing our story would mean the world to us.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness and generosity!
