Lungs for Judy

Hello and welcome to the Lungs for Judy fundraising page. My name is Sarah Mann and my mother, Judy Mann, is the greatest person on this earth. I love her with all of my heart. Judy has 3 children Rick, Jennifer and Sarah, and 5 grandsons.                                                            
                                                                                                                           She is the heart and soul of our family. Not only is she the heart of our immediate family, but our extended family as well. Her house has always been the hub of activity and meeting place for our whole family. Judy has always gone above and beyond to help others who are in need. For the past 56 years of her life, she has given monetary aid to those in need and frequently even provided a home for many family members. She is known for her kindness, generosity and selfless giving to others. She has always put herself last. Judy is loved, cherished and respected by all who know her.

Fifteen years ago, Judy was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Emphysema. Her doctors have now told her she is in the end stage of COPD with a life of expectancy of 5 years or less. Quality of life for her has become very bad.

There is hope for Judy. Her doctors believe she is a good candidate for a double -lung transplant. She is currently going through testing and screening to be placed on the waiting list for a lung transplant at IU Health- Methodist in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Once placed on the list and confirmed for a transplant, Judy will continue with rehab in preparation for the transplant. She will be required to take a lot of anti-rejection medications so she will not reject the new lungs. These medications are very very expensive, and her insurance will not cover them. After the transplant, she will be in the hospital for a month. Then, after her release, she will have numerous doctor visits, plus the continuation of rehab and medications. These will incur many out of pocket costs. All funds from this fundraiser will be used for her medication, doctor bills and rehab, and any other expenses not covered by insurance.

Having new lungs will give Judy the ability to play with her youngest grandson without exertion and the use of concentrated oxygen. She will be able to walk up and down stairs without exertion and exhaustion. She will be able to participate once again in family events and outings that are impossible for her now. Just being able to walk from the kitchen to her car in the garage without being wiped out and gasping for air will be a wonderful blessing. With her new lungs, her quality of life.will be greatly improved. This is an opportunity for many to give back and sow into this dear woman's life, a small part of the many blessings she has given to so many over her life.
