My name is Sophie and my mom Lisa, is 58 years young. She is a mother of five and grandmother of two, who was first diagnosed with COPD in 2019. In June of this year, she became very sick and was dismissed by her primary care doctor. One week later, she went to the emergency room and was in septic shock. Over her week and a half stay in the hospital, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Emphysema, on top of many other lung complications. This diagnosis has changed her life more than any of us could have imagined. Her quality of life has significantly decreased, she is on 24/7 oxygen, she can no longer physically complete all the tasks she used to. Not only has this affected my mothers life, but all of us around her.
Her original diagnosis suggested a 10 year life expectancy. After countless follow up doctor visits, 10 years turned into less than 3, and doctors began discussing other options. At this point, my mom’s only option for a better and longer life is to undergo a double lung transplant. While we are fortunate that this option is available, it is still extremely expensive and comes with a lengthy recovery. We are asking for all the help we can get.
My mother is one of the strongest women in the world and can face adversity head on, but this is not a fight she can do alone. My entire life, my mom taught us that you should help your neighbor and love all, because there is always someone who needs help. Now, it’s our family that needs help.
If you are not able to donate, I ask if you can please share anywhere possible. Thank you.
