Double Lung Transplant for Faye Delaney

It’s hard to ask for help. It’s especially hard for someone whose true fulfillment in life has been as a caregiver. But our mom, the greatest giver we know, needs help as she awaits a double lung transplant.

 

We are incredibly proud that so many have experienced our mother’s love. “Faye” as most know her, has been a mother figure to many after years devoted to child care. When she suffered a sudden health issue in 2016, leaving “her kids” was incredibly hard on her. She gave her full heart to their care. Now, Interstitial Lung Disease has left her lungs scarred and a lung transplant is the only option - our only option. With our father, Brian, as her primary support person, they will need to relocate from Halifax to Toronto to wait on the gift of an organ donation. After a wait of what could be months, the surgery and additional months of rehabilitation will follow. 

 

On top of the physical toll and the emotional toll of being away from the comforts of home - friends, family, grandkids, her kids - there will be financial stress while living and recovering in Toronto. For the greater part of a year, they will have travel, transport, food, accommodations, and medical needs required. Even once we have them back home in Halifax, there will still be multiple trips to and from Toronto for follow-up care. We love our parents too much to have them also go through this financial pain. So we are the ones asking for help. For them.
