Lung Cancer in the Time of COVID

It is no secret that 2020 has been astonishingly bad for everyone. But it's a special insult to those who have to cope not just with the coronavirus but with advanced lung cancer, too.

My name is Sacha, and  my friends Ebeth, Kevin, and Cayenne are among my very favorite people. In some ways, they are a perfectly ordinary family: Ebeth and Kevin are helping their son (and my son's best friend), Cayenne, do the distance learning thing, and Cayenne is dealing with what it means to be socially distant from his friends. And like many freelancers, Ebeth (a health-foods chef) and Kevin (a photographer) are finding that their careers do not mesh well with teleworking.

But they are not an ordinary family. Kevin and Ebeth are newlyweds; they married a little over a year ago before the insanity of 2020. And before Kevin's diagnosis. Now every day is precious.

Currently, Kevin is hospitalized. Blood clots are dotting his lungs. He will need ongoing treatment, and the doctors expect he will be in and out of the hospital for the next few months. The road ahead is difficult.

What's more, the family is between apartments at the moment. They had to scrap previous plans in order to stay in DC for treatment.

So here's the ask: We need to help Ebeth, Kevin, and Cayenne rent a house or large apartment with no stairs and with room for a wheelchair for the next few months--preferably near Sibley. That way, they can stay close to Kevin's doctors and their support system. This is an expensive but important and urgent task. Please help me get my friends through this terrible time.
