Lunenburg House Fire Family in need
Donation protected
Hi,
My name is Kim. I am fundraising for Heidi Sokolowski, wh a Lunenburg resident who recently lost her home to fire. Here is her story.
On Wednesday, October 5th, Lunenberg residents Heidi Sokolowski and her 9-year old daughter survived a devastating fire that destroyed their home and all their possessions.
Just after midnight, Heidi was awakened by a loud bang. Realizing the sound came from the garage, she went downstairs to find her garage being consumed by flames. Thankfully, she was able to get everyone to safety, including her dog Pepper! They escaped with only the clothes on their back. The house has been deemed a total loss.
Heidi recently moved to Lunenburg after years of being the primary caregiver for both her mother and grandmother. Even though she is now dealing with her own medical issues, Heidi was thrilled to finally be able to buy her own home here in Lunenburg. Sadly, Heidi had just finished repainting and redecorating her daughter’s bedroom. In addition, this past August her daughter won a new bike and helmet at the Leominster Kid Fest. The fire destroyed everything!
Within hours of a Facebook posting requesting clothing for the family, our Lunenberg community responded with boxes and bags of clothing. To those who donated, we cannot thank you enough for your quick and heartfelt response!
However, the fact remains that Heidi’s insurance will cover less than ½ the cost of rebuilding her house. Heidi and her daughter will need to look for an apartment or RV to rent. Estimates are that it will take two years to rebuild her home on its present site. They want to stay in Lunenburg, a community they have grown to love!
We estimate that Heidi needs approximately $50,000 to cover housing, clothes, and other necessary items to rebuild their lives.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
