I'm Ben, a 14-year-old student in Austin. I recently learned that about 5,000 students in Austin ISD currently carry a school lunch debt, with the total adding up to $18,500. But YOU can help! When kids are hungry, they don't do as well at school. Being stressed or embarrassed about not having enough money for food is disheartening. I'm sure parents have a lot of worries, and lunch for their kids should not be one of them. I have chosen an Austin ISD high school, middle school, and elementary school to fund this year:

HS debt: Akins - $1869
MS debt: Paredes - $724
Elementary debt: Blazier - $510

Thank you for your generous donation! All donations will be delivered to the schools in need and applied directly to individual debt. If I'm able to reach my goal this year, I plan on making this an annual fundraiser.

Ben Hofer (14), founder of LunchCounts!, a charitable organization striving to reduce school lunch debt in Austin.

Hello everyone,

I have temporarily turned off the ability to donate on my page as the 2018-2019 school year is over. I will restart this campaign in the fall/winter for a holiday donation drive. Kids will still need our help, so I hope we can go even further than we did this past spring! Also, I will make sure that any donations that came in after I gave AISD the $10,000 check will be delivered to the schools. Thanks for all the support!

Thanks,
Ben

Yesterday I delivered a check for 10,000 dollars to Austin ISD! This will not only erase the school lunch debt for every student at the 3 schools I originally set out to help but also, due to your generosity, it will help kids all over the district! This would not have been possible without all of you. Although I've met my goal for now, I'm going to keep the fundraiser live for a bit longer because I'm still getting donations. Then I plan on doing another fundraiser next year because there will still be kids with school lunch debt that need our help. Thank you all so much! Ben

You are invited to the 4th annual Civics Fair!

I wanted to reach out one last time to thank everyone for helping me with my school project. I also wanted to invite you all to the Civics Fair next Tuesday (see attached invitation). During the Civics Fair all of my classmates will be presenting their projects and answering questions. I hope everyone can join us on May 14, 2:15 to 3:45 pm, at St. Andrews Episcopal Middle School (1112 W. 31st street).

Thanks again,
Ben
