I can’t believe I’m here asking for help again, but life has thrown Luna another battle and I need to fight for her. I would do anything for this beautiful soul.

During Luna’s emergency throat surgery a few weeks ago (to remove a large stick she had impaled herself on in Tofino months earlier), the CT scan showed something unexpected: a mass engulfing her right thyroid gland and another attached to the left.

Our vet informed us we are dealing with thyroid cancer.

The good news is that because of that emergency CT, we caught it early enough that surgery can save her life. The plan is to remove her entire right thyroid gland and the mass on the left and send them for testing. As long as her lung X-ray on Monday shows the cancer hasn’t spread, she’ll go straight into surgery on Wednesday. If it has spread, she’ll need to start chemotherapy right away..

Luna is still so full of life — happy, energetic, goofy, and undeniably my whole heart. After everything she has survived this past year, I owe it to her to keep fighting. There is nothing I wouldn’t do for this dog. The oncologist believes if we act fast she can conquer this and live a long life, as we caught it very early.

This surgery and follow-up care are estimated at $7,000, and after her ACL surgery last year and the emergency throat surgery recently, I’m struggling to cover another huge cost so soon.
