Luna has never seen a cat she didn't want to chase... or a squirrel, rabbit, chipmunk … well, you get the picture. Unfortunately, when I let her out Friday morning to do her backyard business, she saw a cat and flew across the deck, missing the stairs, and landing on the ground with sharp yelps (it still took her a few minutes to surrender the chase). She had torn her ACL. The optimal remedy is a TPLO surgery followed by physical therapy. I do not have pet insurance, and the cost is well beyond my current ability to pay. Still, I want her to have the best possible chance of a full recovery. She is such a happy, energetic dog, and it’s crushing to see her in so much pain. She’s 8 years and 4 months old, so she still has plenty of running, swimming, and playing time ahead of her if I can get her all patched up. Obviously, the sooner she has the surgery, the better. Currently she is hopping around on three legs and we don’t want the other back leg to suffer from the unbalance. Her walks now must be restricted to short leash walks, when she is used to taking long off leash runs and rambles in the woods, trails, and riversides of Tahoe. There are other options, but all take more time, leave her in pain longer, and have lower success rates of a full recovery. I want to be able to give her the best care possible. That’s why I’m following a friend’s suggestion to try GoFund me. Thank you for any donation of any size.
