UPDATE:
it has been nearly 3 weeks since the day luna came home hurt. Since then she has had countless vet visits, medication changes and bacteria testing.
She is being seen daily at this point. They are concerned about mersa, her infection spreading further and her body shutting down. If we can't get this under control they will have to amputate. She is still fighting and trying to get stronger everyday. We are asking for help from our community with anything they can spare. This unexpected attack has drained us financially. Thank you to those who have continued to be supportive through this rough patch. We are hoping for her recovery to come soon.
She went missing Friday. We had our whole community looking for her. Sunday afternoon my son went outside and found her crawling home. She managed to make it to our yard. My husband rushed and pick her up because as soon as she saw us she just collapsed. I immediately rushed her to the local emergency vet. She has puncture wounds up on her shoulders, scratches under her neck, belly and sides. And bite mark on her legs along with a giant slice through her leg. The cut is so badly infected and is so deattached it's going to take a long time to heal. The vet wasn't able to stitch her leg up because of the infection and because the skin won't reach anymore. It has to be wet and dry bandaged every 3 days at her vet clinic along with infection checks and cleaning out her wounds. She is on sedation medications, pain meds and antibiotics at home. Every 3 days we will bring her to the vet for this until the skin grows enough for them to actually go in and close her wound. But its going to take alot of time for that to happen.
We know the vet costs are going to be larger than the gofundme amount is set at, but anything helps. Thank you so much for supporting luna and our family. We couldn't have been more blessed by our community. We are so happy luna is back home and safe.
She is such a strong girl with such a beautiful spirit.
For those of you who want to know what did this we honestly can't give any definite answers. We don't think it's human related at this point. We think a large animal got to her. Can say if it was a cougar for sure but that's what our best guess would be. We have just been informed there was a cougar sighting nearby.
