Hi, my name is Karen Santos. Many of you may know that I have 2 amazing dogs named Bella and Luna. One is a husky and the other is a German Shepard.
Unfortunately, our Luna (German Shepard) who is only a year and a half was diagnosed with a Liver Shunt.
There are veins that drain blood away from the digestive tract. This blood carries nutrients, hormones, and waste material and is supposed to enter the liver before it travels to the rest of the body. This is where the liver takes what it needs to function properly and detoxifies the blood before sending it onward.
Luna has an abnormal blood vessel that connects to these veins in the digestive tract to the “systemic” circulatory system feeding the rest of the body, thereby bypassing the liver.
This is causes Luna to look skinny, drool excessively, vomiting sometimes blood due to all the toxins that are being released.
We have been with her since day one trying to find answers on why she looked ill. We have paid out of our pockets every medications and tests that she needed.
She really needs this surgery and we would hate to put her down when we know there is a chance for her to still live a long life ahead. She’s not only a dog or best friend … she’s a family member.
Please, anything will help her to get this surgery done for her. We appreciate it and thank you for taking your time in helping Luna out.
