Hello all! Meet Luna, the very happy, very playful and very sweet 11-month-old Chihuahua. She loves chicken, carrots, blueberries, squeaky or crinkly toys, chasing her ball and cuddling up under a T-shirt for naps. She came into our care on April 13th when we rescued her from a situation of neglect. Unfortunately, Luna-pup experienced a fracture to her left forelimb very early on in her life that was left untreated and as a result has healed with a severe deformity. We know, how is it possible that she could’ve sustained such an injury in only four months of existence and nobody have taken her to receive the proper care?? We took her to the vet on Monday 14th April and it was determined that unfortunately Luna will need an amputation to ensure she no longer has to suffer from the effects of this untreated injury and won’t have any issues with the limb going forward.

As well as her leg, Luna has an inguinal hernia that needs repairing as soon as possible. This is the main priority as, thankfully, her leg doesn’t appear to be causing too much discomfort at the moment.

One of the first things we did was set Luna up with insurance. Unfortunately, due to the nature of her conditions the insurance company are not willing to cover her for either surgery.

This puppy has had a massive impact on us in the short time we’ve known her and we only want the best for her going forward. As such, we ask for any help that you can give to ensure our little Luna-Lu can live a long, happy life free of any pain or discomfort.

Our vet has estimated that her surgery will cost around £3,600. The £4000 goal will be to cover blood tests prior to surgery and the potential cost of any medications she might need should any complications arise. Should we not end up having to use the money for such reasons we will be donating the remainder of the sum to Mayhew Animal Home.
