Guys, please help our puggle, Luna. We took her to the emergency vet today because she was having a hard time walking. They kept her for observation for the night but within 3 hours they called to let us know that she is now completely paralyzed. The neurology vet is coming in the morning to give her an exam and they’ll call us after to discuss our options.
At this point, we’re told that if she has no pain response in her legs by morning, surgery has about 50% chance of success. If she does show a pain response, the surgery is 90% successful.
The bad news is she’ll need an MRI which is $4500 and the surgery estimate is $10-12K.
This is a tough decision for us because she is young, 3 years old, she’s not sick, her legs just don’t work. I cannot and will not support euthanasia just because she can’t move her legs. That being said, realistically we’re looking at one of two options-
1. She has surgery and recovery will be tough but it could mean she’ll be able to walk again.
2. She has no pain response and we bring her home. She’ll need a sling and wheelchair and likely diapers.
Either way, we could really use some help with her expenses. For those of you who are close to us, you know we are dealing with a lot right now, personally as a family. There would never be the “right” time for this to happen, but right now? It couldn’t be a worse time for us financially.
Please help our baby Luna. We appreciate anything you can spare. Harley, Kira and Sydney really want their sister to come home.
