Luna’s Story: A Legacy of Love and Hope
Luna was a warrior. She was born with congenital heart disease (CHD) and battled heart failure from the very beginning. She spent 409 days in the ICU, fighting battles no child should ever have to face. She endured countless collapsed lungs, a massive brain bleed that required doctors to remove half of her skull and place it back three months later, and underwent numerous open-heart surgeries—each one a fight for her life.
For 254 days lunita waited for a heart transplant, and when she finally received it, we hoped and prayed for a new beginning. But her little body had already been through so much. She fought rejection, and in the end, sepsis and rejection took her from us on January 17, 2025.
She was placed on ECMO three times—once on December 8, then again after suffering cardiac arrest on December 26, and finally, in a desperate last attempt to save her, on January 17—the day she passed away. It was simply too much for her tiny body to endure.
Though our hearts are shattered, we are endlessly grateful for the time we had with her—1 year, 6 months, 5 days, 17 hours, and 13 minutes. Thank you, Jesus, for every second.
No Parent Should Have to Choose Between Work and Their Child. We were placed in that situation and I mom was the one who took on sleeping in the hospital for 409 days.
Luna’s journey opened our eyes to a painful truth: when a child is critically ill, parents are forced to make impossible choices—between work and their child, between paying bills (that we still owe) and being present, between their own basic needs and their baby’s survival.
We lived in the hospital for over a year in this hospital admission alone. We know what it feels like to sleep in a chair, too afraid to close our eyes in case our baby needed us. We met parents who couldn’t afford to eat a real meal because every dollar had to go toward medical bills. We saw mothers and fathers curled up on window sills or stiff hospital couches, so exhausted they could barely function. Some families had to leave their critically ill child behind just to go to work, because if they didn’t, they wouldn’t be able to pay for gas, food, or even a place to stay. Others lost their jobs altogether, forced to choose between survival and being by their child’s side.
This should never be a choice a parent has to make. No family should have to suffer alone.
That’s why we are turning our pain into purpose—honoring Luna’s legacy by helping families who are walking the same heartbreaking path.

La Historia de Luna: Un Legado de Amor y Esperanza
Luna fue una guerrera. Nació con cardiopatía congénita (CHD) y luchó contra la insuficiencia cardíaca desde el principio. Pasó 409 días en la UCI, enfrentándose a batallas que ningún niño debería tener que vivir. Soportó innumerables pulmones colapsados, una hemorragia cerebral masiva que requirió que los médicos le retiraran la mitad del cráneo y la volvieran a colocar tres meses después, y se sometió a numerosas cirugías a corazón abierto, cada una de ellas una lucha por su vida.
Durante 254 días, esperó un trasplante de corazón, y cuando finalmente lo recibió, esperábamos y rezábamos por un nuevo comienzo. Pero su pequeño cuerpo ya había pasado por tanto. Luchó contra el rechazo, y al final, la sepsis nos la quitó el 17 de enero de 2025.
Se le colocó en ECMO tres veces: una el 8 de diciembre, luego nuevamente después de sufrir un paro cardíaco el 26 de diciembre, y finalmente, en un último intento desesperado por salvarla, el 17 de enero, el día que falleció. Fue simplemente demasiado para que su pequeño cuerpo lo soportara.
Aunque nuestros corazones están hechos trizas, estamos infinitamente agradecidos por el tiempo que tuvimos con ella: 1 año, 6 meses, 5 días, 17 horas y 13 minutos. Gracias, Jesús, por cada segundo.
Las Familias como la Nuestra Necesitan Tu Ayuda
El viaje de Luna nos abrió los ojos a una realidad desgarradora: padres como nosotros, viviendo en el hospital, luchando por sobrevivir mientras pelean por la vida de su hijo.
Vimos a madres y padres durmiendo en los alféizares de las ventanas del hospital porque se negaban a dejar el lado de su hijo. Conocimos a padres que pasaban días sin comer una comida real porque cada centavo debía ir a las facturas médicas. Algunos no podían permitirse la gasolina ni el estacionamiento solo para visitar a su bebé en la UCI. Otros no tenían dónde dormir, pasando meses en un sofá duro del hospital, demasiado exhaustos para funcionar pero sin otro lugar adonde ir.
Muchas de estas familias vienen de otros estados, lejos de casa, incapaces de trabajar, quedándose sin nada mientras hacen lo que sea necesario para estar junto a su hijo.
