The story of Luna Loo Who, Hula Lula, Loons
My name's Luna and I'm from Honolulu on the island of Oahu, Hawai'i My hoomon and grandhoomon adopted me from Humane Society. I was so scared that I stayed curled up in the dark corner as far back from the gate as I could. My hooman and grandhooman decided to visit the shelter on a whim, and to my surprise, would not leave my kennel. They were the first ones to even ask about me. They sat with me for an hour until I was comfortable enough to sniff them. I think my cuteness sealed the deal. It took me about a month to come out from behind the furniture once they took me home. I didn't know what that weird leash thing was and why they had to stay connected to me when I had to go #2. I was found on the streets hiding in a plant, so I guess it makes sense I felt safe when I was hiding. I was severely abused, so I've always been afraid of hoomans. But these hoomans became my hoomans. When my grandhooman died, my hooman moved us back to California to take care of loose ends and four cats (yeah, the worst thing ever I know). If you've seen me run, I'm the fastest dog in the yard, like Allyson Felix fast. I am like the energizer bunny that never runs out of batteries. My favorite thing to do...well all day long, is try to attack the chlorine holder in the pool and keep both eyes on that pool sweep. My hoomans don't believe me, but they are alive and must be watched vigilantly. Anyway, back to my story. When I was running, my CCL, or ACL in you hoomans, tore. This girl is hopping on 3 legs, and I've gotten real good at it. The problem is, my other leg is showing signs of fluid buildup and is very susceptible to the same injury.
This is why surgery is urgent. My hooman has to pay the entire surgery cost up front, and they squeezed me in right after Christmas. I wish so much that it was not so expensive, because my hooman has been working for a nonprofit as well as doing an unpaid clinical practicum for her master's for the past year. It's been hard for her to pay the bills on top of school. She loves what she does, but it's hard working as a therapist for no pay and barely above minimum wage. Even $5 will add up, and help more than you all know. I have to be immobile for two weeks, and confined to a room for at minimum of a month with an additional 4-6 month recovery. So I will have lots of free time for mom to take tons of embarrassing pictures and post them for updates. Please make sure mom watches the pool sweep. It’s serious.
Love, Luna
