TL;DR

I recently started this fundraiser to help raise funds for Luna’s upcoming surgery, scheduled tentatively for August 15th, the day after her sixth birthday. If you consider donating and helping by sharing our story, our family and Luna would be so grateful. There’s no contribution too small, as every dollar will help bring us closer to reaching our goal of $2,500 by Friday, August 12th, 2022.

Birthday Surgery Backstory

As some of you may have heard, Luna, our 5-year-old Boston Terrier, was recently diagnosed with a mast cell tumor for which the treatment plan requires surgical removal in order to prevent the cells from progressing. For the time being, Luna’s veterinarian, Dr. Zoccoli at Hudson Animal Hospital recommended that we start her on Benadryl and Pepcid AC in order to prevent the cells from activating a histamine response. Ultimately though, medication is only a temporary solution, until the tumor can be removed.

From Failed Foster to Fur-Ever Home: The Luna Williams Story

Luna came to us as a foster in May 2018, when her owners found themselves in an incredibly difficult situation and could no longer care for her. My husband Emilio and I embraced the opportunity to welcome into our home and care for an adorable little Boston terrier until her owners got back on their feet. We didn’t even consider the possibility they wouldn’t come back for her, but after almost eight months without any contact from them, we knew the best option was to assume ownership as it was pretty clear no one was coming back for her any time soon.

When she first arrived, she had very little training and even less experience socializing with other dogs, but with a lot of guidance and support from Emilio, her behavior began to improve noticeably. Today, Luna is best described as plucky, outgoing, and above all, loving and affectionate. Not only does her love know no bounds, it’s also instantaneous and ever-flowing.

I often feel as though this tiny creature has given more to me, than I have to her. She has brought Emilio and I so much joy and happiness with her personality, for which we are so grateful. Knowing how much love Luna has brought to our lives, we will do whatever it takes to make sure she lives a long and happy life.
