**UPDATES AT BOTTOM**(with pics!)

On Friday, August 4th Luna was admitted to the ICU at the Toronto Emergency Veterinary Clinic (VEC) experiencing severe sweating, high heart rate, and was in respiratory distress. After many test and exams, it was discovered that Luna had somehow ingested medication that was causing toxicity levels in her body. Although initially the vet reported it was expected that in 48-72 hours the medication would clear and she would experience no additional side effects, the next day, we got some even worse news.

Luna has had undiagnosed kidney disease and suspected hyperthyroidism which has been masking her symptoms. While the medication in her system has cleared and she is no longer experiencing toxicity, due to these underlying conditions, Luna is still in hospital and is unable to walk or eat, is drooling excessively and rarely meows. She has been receiving daily intravenous fluids to help flush her kidneys and injection vitamins to help improve her conditions. Sadly, she is still unable to bear her own weight and since she has been admitted to hospital, Luna has been unable to eat and has since developed fatty liver. She is experiencing significant nauseau and on August 9th, Luna was placed on a feeding tube and has started to tolerate small twice daily tube-feedings.

I love my cat so much and I could not bear the thought of having to stop her treatment. Unfortunately, the daily blood work, analysis, exams, tests, and medications have well-surpassed anything I could imagine. I struggled to come up with the $3000 deposit for the 48 hours they initially anticipated Luna would need to stay before discovering her underlying conditions and as of August 11th, the bill has now surpassed $7000 and is still climbing as Luna treatment continues.

Below is the invoice from VEC for Aug 5th-11th.

As of August 15th, Luna is still in clinic.
I am spending time with her every night at the vet, trying to encourage her to eat and move her body. Each day she is getting stronger and her kidney and liver values are improving, they hope that she will be able to come home by the end of this week if she can tolerate being syringe fed by mouth. I have almost maxed out my credit limit am cannot afford to continue Luna's treatment, and am reaching out to the kind-hearted folks of the world and asking for your support and to donate to help me continue to pay for Luna's treatment, instead of having to take her home to watch her die.

She is only eight years old and she is my baby; her sister (bonded pair) has been crying at night, cleaning herself excessively, and has been overall more lethargic than usual. Please help to get Luna the treatment she needs to come back home to her twin sister and all those who love her.

Thank you to everyone, sincerely, who donates to and/or shares this page. Every share and every dollar makes a difference.

**UPDATE** On August 13th, the vet informed us that Luna had been more able to move her body and get up and down and walk herself into her cage. She is doing so well, closer to her wide eyed chatty self. She no longer needs IV fluids and today she even showed interest in some dried chicken cat treats! The vet has arranged for us to pick her up tomorrow at 6pm to see if she’s more inclined to eat in a less stressful environment of our home. Fingers crossed! Can’t wait to bring my fur baby home!! *

**UPDATES*** August 14th - Sad, shocking news this morning when the vet called. Luna has been struggling to breathe overnight and her XRay has shown fluid in her lungs and an enlarged heart. The vets are concerned she may be in heart failure, but have to wait for the cardiologist to give her an Echocardiogram on Tuesday to determine severity. They have put her on medication to reduce the fluid in the lungs and are working hard to get her breathing better. She will not be going home with us tonight and will need at least another two nights in hospital. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. **

**Updates**** August 16th -

What a rollercoaster of a journey this has been for Luna. Finally, after 13 days in the Emergency Ward at Toronto VEC, Luna is ready to come home! After consult with cardiologist and the results of her echo came back, we were told Lunas heart looks good, although a small level of fluid was seen. The doctors believe that she went into fluid overload from being on the IV fluids for an extended period. She is still pretty lethargic and tired and it will take some time for her and her sister to readjust to one another again.

But we’re not out of the woods yet. She is still struggling with eating and we have her on an appetite stimulant. There are continued concerns about her high creatinine levels and thyroid levels, which will need to be rechecked again next week. The good news is that she started showing interest in Oat Grass for the first time, which is a good start.

These tests will cost another $1000 to have completed, in addition to the exam fee when she gets a check up with the regular vet. Some people have a hard time understanding why I would pay over 7k for Luna’s vet bills, and put the charges on my credit card(s), when I do not have the income to support it. However, it is the kindhearted generosity of folks like yourself, reading this today, who get it. This is my fur baby, not just “a cat” and I will do everything I can to save her life, even if it breaks the banks

I want to say that i am SO grateful for the outpour of support from friends, family, and the kindness of strangers who have said kind words, wishes, and prayers for Luna, in addition to those who have donated. Seriously folks. THANK YOU ❤️Honestly, Luna would not be here today without you folks and your support.‍⬛

Fingers crossed she continues to pull through and get stronger. Thank you to everyone who has supported and who continue to support by donating and sharing this page. It is going to be a long-road to recovery for Luna and every share and dollar makes a huge difference. ❤️‍⬛ #blackcatlove
