It's no secret that I am a proud dog mommy to a beautiful, silly pile of snuggle named Luna. She is a pitbull/ridgeback mix who was dumped by her previous owners at the San Diego SPCA as a puppy with an umbilical hernia and signs of healing from a broken leg. Now, at 4, she is suffering from a not so easily healed leg injury, and that's why I'm humbly asking for your help.
Less than a year ago, Luna slipped during a playful chase with her pals, tearing her ACL and partially rupturing her meniscus. Pitbulls are tough and she tried very hard to hide the injury so we could keep an active lifestyle of running, hiking, swimming, and charging through sandy beaches (her favorite thing). After a typical beach day she came home and struggled to walk, trying to use only her front paws. A vet appointment confirmed the tear and rupture, suggesting rest as an alternative to surgery. After 8 months of rest, Luna is not getting any better. She walks on 3 legs and can no longer play with other dogs or engage in any activities outside of a short walk. Surgery is the only option if she has even the smallest chance of regaining some of her active life. She needs it sooner than later as the quality of her little knee deteriorates with every walk.
The $3000 covers the orthopedic surgery and additional X-rays. Presently, I have saved a little money, but I simply don't have that amount of spare change. The good news is I've found a specialist who will do the surgery if I can come up with at least half the money and then they will set up a payment plan for me to pay the remaining sum.
Trust me when I say that the hardest thing is asking for your help because I feel like a failure and all around crappy pet owner. But when I look over at Luna now, laying in her bed, looking sad and in pain, I knew I had to do something to help her. Please help me in any way that you can. I can promise hundreds of Luna kisses and my eternal gratitude. Thank you.
