Hello, thank you for taking the time out of your busy lives to tune into mine. My name is Luna. I am a sweet, spunky and loving 8 year old English Bulldog. Anyone who knows me, knows I love nothing more than my yoga ball(s) (and my mom.) I still have a lot of life left in me & I am hoping to stick around for as long as I can! Two years ago I chased my ball into the Puget Sound and I got a bacterial infection in my ear and it has been bothering me ever since. What went from monthly visits to treat my painful infection has turned into weekly visits to multiple veterinarians. Visit after visit have they tried to treat my ear infection with various topical and oral antibiotics with no success. Now, multiple vets, dermatologists and specialists have all come to the unfortunate conclusion that I have to have my entire ear canal removed or the infection could easily spread to my brain, and I could die.

The procedure is called a Total Ear Canal Ablation Surgery (TECA). A TECA involves the removal of the diseased and infected ear canal whilst leaving the inner ear (the hearing organ) in place. Please click this link for a detail description of TECA SURGERY .

This is a very scary time for me and my mom. She has already spent thousands of dollars at the vet trying to treat this ongoing problem and work has been shutdown due to this global pandemic we really need your help.

There is a risk of post operative neurologic abnormalities such as head
tilt, head turn, Horner’s syndrome, and facial nerve paralysis. Generally most of these abnormalities resolve or at least improve in 6-8 weeks following surgery but they are sometimes permanent. Abscess formation is another post-operative risk and if this occurs a second surgery may be needed. 

I will need to wear a fluid drainage bag for a week which my loving mother will have to tend to along with all my other needs.  A cone will be in place so I don't scratch as well! I will loose most of my hearing in my one ear but it wont be much different from the way my life is now as my ear canal is so full of infected tissue that it is already closed up to anything passing through it already.
