This is Ines from Campuskittiesfl. I run an Instagram page that shines a spotlight on community cats living at the University of Florida campus and the benefits of trap, neuter, return (TNR), to control the population of homeless cats on campus.
I am coming to you today because we need to help Luna fight for her life. For many years, Luna has quietly roamed the little forest (and hung out at the picnic tables) located between UF’s Reitz Union and the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering complex. While students, staff, and faculty passed by, she would watch from the forest – timid and gentle, just longing for a forever home. She had a little group of people who would provide her with breakfast and lunch every day (Milan, Megan, and me).
Luna wasn’t just another campus community cat. She has a soft, soulful presence, and it always seemed like she was waiting and hoping for someone to take her home. That’s when Isabel Nicole, a graduate student at the University of Florida, appeared in her life. Isabel contacted me through Campuskittiesfl and said that she had been visiting with Luna almost daily, bringing her food, offering soft, gentle pets, and showing her lots of love and compassion. Isabel said that Luna started becoming sweet and clingy, and her personality blossomed. She became addicted to attention, leaning into pets, purring. Isabel was the person that Luna had been waiting for all her six years of life.
On May 16, 2025, that dream for Luna became a reality. Isabel swooped Luna up, placed her in a carrier, and took her home to begin their lives together.
Unfortunately, within days, that excitement and joy turned into heartbreak. Isabel had noticed, and we all had noticed, that Luna had started to lose weight, but we all thought it was due to intestinal worms from fleas and living outside. But the very same say she adopted her, she had an appointment with Newberry Animal Hospital, and that’s when they discovered elevated liver values in her initial bloodwork.
Luna became jaundiced and lethargic about four days after she was adopted. Isabel rushed her to Community Care Veterinary Specialists in Gainesville, Florida, where they recommended some extensive tests, such as a complete blood count, IV fluids, a liver ultrasound, chest X-rays and medications.
Isabel is doing everything she can, but she’s a graduate student, and the costs for Luna’s care to give her a fighting chance are overwhelming. I am asking my Campuskittiesfl community to come together and help raise $1,300 for Luna’s lifesaving care. This amount is not nearly the total amount, but it will help Isabel give Luna a chance at life.
Please let’s give her a fighting chance. No amount is too small, every amount helps to reach our goal.
The forest that Tippy and Luna lived in near the picnic tables and the small stream may have something that is making animals sick. Something isn’t right.
Luna’s life is in your hands. Please give anything you can, $5, $10, $20, $25, $50, or more – all of it helps to get us to our goal of $1,300. Every dollar brings Luna closer to the care she needs.
Please share this fundraiser to help us spread the word. Let’s help sweet Luna, who waited all this time for a forever home, only to be fighting for her life from liver issues due to a contaminated area.
Help Isabel help her sweet little kitty friend.
