Our beloved Luna, only 11 years of age, is currently in urgent care as she has lost the energy and motivation to eat and is losing muscle mass quickly. In the last several years, we have done all we can to ensure her good health as she gets older - vet exams, blood panels, x-rays, urinalysis, ultrasounds, etc. - no signs have shown abnormality until her sudden decline this month (May 2025).
This past week, we rushed her to the emergency vet clinic and the internal medicine doctor found the following:
- fatty liver
- pancreatic abnormalities
- signs of chronic kidney disease
- thickening of upper and lower GI tract
- reactive lymph nodes in GI tract
All signs seem to point to small-cell GI lymphoma, a cancer of the gut.
As of today, Luna's vital organs are working hard to take in any nutrients that she can (via catheter/IV) in the ICU. Treatment is possible, but on top of the funds we have already put in to diagnosing and stabilizing her so far, the increasing costs of her treatment plans, testing and hospitalization, have made it hard for us to fully cover it on our own without significant financial strain.
For any of you that know us personally and have met our cats - Luna is an integral part of our little family. We adopted her 9 yrs. ago and have bonded to her early on. Luna has given us love, companionship, sass, and is the defining spirit of what we consider our 'home'. To see her wither away like this breaks our heart, and we are not prepared for her to cross the rainbow bridge like this when she still has so much life to live, and more cuddles to receive.
Anything helps, and we are forever grateful to any friends, family, strangers that are able to contribute to Luna's cause.
With love,
Ashley and Gerald
