Update: (warning graphic picture. I have blurred it as best I can) Luna has had the surgery to remove the mass. It has been removed, successfully, with confirmed good margins.
However we have had a hiccup. The stitches have failed. With the movement of Lunas tail the stitches burst open. I was advised to have a 2nd surgery to try and repair the break.
I did this surgery, at an additional £850, trusting that this would repair the break in stitches.
The stitches didn't even hold for 12 hours. They have burst open again, leaving a massive open wound that I now have to care for, hoping it doesn't get infected. This is obviously not what we wanted for Luna. I'm now trying to raise funds to cover all of these additional costs (which are mounting). ANY help will be greatly appreciated.
Hi, my name is Daniela, and this fundraiser is for my 11 yr old Labrador, Luna Lovegood, who was diagnosed with cancer a week ago.
About 4 months ago I noticed a lump at the base of Lunas tail. I took her to the vets and had it tested. The samples came back not showing any malignancy, but were tainted with blood, so this was not a definitive answer. We would have to biopsy for that..
Luna, who loves her food, was overweight, and the vets and I took the decision not to biopsy at the time as her age, coupled with the weight, was not a good candidate at the time. It was deemed too risky.
Fast forward 4 months. Luna has lost a whopping 8 kgs (17 pounds) and we decided to retest the mass as it had doubled in size.
My amazing vet, Alistair, took 5 samples and we managed to get one that came back with a result. She has a soft cell Sarcoma that needs to be removed surgically, sooner rather than later (I have attached a picture of the mass, and a copy of the results, as well as the quote sent to me). A quote was written up which I knew was going to be out of my scope...
A bit about Luna: my Loulou Bear. My earth angel. The kindest, sweetest, happiest dog in the whole world (I know we all say that, but this yellow bundle of love is truly special).
She has been with me since she was 8 weeks old. A little bundle of mischief that even in my darkest days, always managed to make me smile, something she has carried through to adulthood.
I have lead a tumultuous life. I have made many wrong choices. Choices that put us in precarious positions, but through it all I have had this angel by my side, quietly bumping her head into my chest in the darkest of days. Her big, beautiful eyes shining at me with love... SO much love.
There were days where we had to live out of the back of the car. Days where we didnt have much to eat. Nights where I cried myself to sleep, terrified about what the morning would bring. She carried me through an abusive partner, placing herself between me and my ex, shielding me as best she could.
Through it all I have had Lunas quiet guidence. Her unwavering support. Her complete love, even when I couldnt love myself.
She helped dragged me from places in my head that no person should ever find themselves. She has never wavered, not once, from my side.
She is the Light to my Darkness...
I owe her everything. I owe her my life.
Please, please, please HELP ME save hers. Judge me however you will (because you will never judge me harsher then I judge myself) but please help me save the one ray of sunshine in my life. If love could save hers, she would live forever.
My Luna...
I will forever be in your debt.
