Hi, my name is Luke; I am in year 9, turning 14 in March and have been given an amazing opportunity to travel to Malaysia in July this year.
The trip is in partnership with World Challenge which leads expeditions all over the world and are designed to inspire leadership and develop resilience, teamwork, conservation and sustainability.
We will be trekking in the Cameron Highlands, experiencing Kuala Lumpur and contributing to a community initiative, and I am looking forward to working on my leadership and teamwork skills.
We will be doing a lot of trekking including to reach the community initiative. The highlight of the trip for me will be taking on a trek in the Cameron Highlands where I will be able to take the lead to guide the group through open country, tea plantations and dense jungle. Working as a team we will trek through thick forest to get to the top of a mountain.
And this is where I am going to need some practice, so during the Easter holidays, together with 2 of my friends we will be leading a team of our parents to attempt The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge . Whilst not the same climate as Malaysia, we will be hiking for 24 miles, summiting the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales which involves 1585m of ascent and the challenge is to complete the route in under 12 hours.
Whilst this challenge will help prepare me for the trekking and leadership skills I will need, World Challenge encourages participants to raise the money for their adventure themselves, and by taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge I am hoping to generate some sponsorship. If you can spare a few pounds, it would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you so much, Luke
