Luke’s Therapy Equipment Needs

Danielle and Kate, friends of the family, or also known as Luke’s girlfriends, are wanting to raise money for medical equipment that is currently not recognized as something insurance will cover. We would love to help Luke get a whole body vibration plate - Hypervibe, and Zing Stander.

Since Luke can not yet stand on his own, this standing frame will help him improve/maintain bone integrity/skeletal development, lessen/manage the progression of scoliosis, strengthen his cardiovascular system and build overall endurance. It can help with circulation, bowel function and regularity, and aid in kidney and bladder functions. The stander will help improve/maintain range of motion, with management of atrophy in the trunk and lower extremities, manage pressure (ulcers) through changing positions, improve strength to trunk and lower extremities, and decrease joint/muscle contractures.

Luke uses the Hypervibe whole body vibration plate during his weekly therapy visits. Better results can be obtained if use of the vibration plate is more consistent throughout each week. Benefits include: decreases coordination deficits, reflex excitability, and spasticity, positively affecting gait and gross motor skills, increases joint mobility, and improves strength in patients with cerebral palsy, with effects lasting up to 30 minutes after treatment. Long-term benefits of vibration therapy include increased muscle mass and bone-mineral density, improved gross motor function, strength, gait, and mobility, and reduced muscle tone and spasticity. Both core, arm, and leg exercises are performed on the vibration platform, improving overall strength.
