Luke's 1,000,000 leg rotations for Alzheimer's Research

Starting the 13th July 2024, I will be using nothing but my own body power to get from the bottom of the British Isles to the top. This is a distance of 16,000km horizontally, 10km vertically, and very roughly 1 million leg rotations (1/2 million per leg). I hope to complete this in just over 2 weeks.

I have always wanted to do this for a charity that is close to my heart – Alzheimer’s Research UK. The loss of my Grandad several years ago gave me my first experience with this disease. It is a brutal, with families losing their loved one even before their death and an even worse experience for those afflicted by it. Let us fund the amazing people who are taking the steps to find a cure.

This appeal for support is at short notice because of health concerns that risked the success of the adventure. After physio, 4 months of training, and a recent practice run, it now seems doable!

I will be travelling on my own with everything I need attached to my bike. Camping will be my way of life to save costs. Food shall be bought from the supermarkets because God knows I can’t cook anyway so why carry cooking equipment only to suffer at the hands of my own creations. Washing shall be in rivers and seas. Pubs shall be a common evening visitation, so much so that this should be relabelled an extreme pub crawl.

I will use this page as an opportunity to update anyone who wishes to know of my journeys, sharing photos and GPS data of each day as I go. So have a read, have a laugh, and donate knowing that you’re helping us all take a step closer to finding a cure to Alzheimer’s.
