For those of you who have found Luke's page you probably know his back story. The reason for this new page is because we truly have the most amazing team of family, friends, community, supporters and amazing angels living among our family.  Just yesterday (1/4/21)we posted about our journey to fundraise for a service dog for Lucas- just 20 hours later, in what Tim and I consider a miracle, people donated enough money to reach this goal!! I don't have words to put onto paper how our lives have once again been completely changed by the generosity, love and caring of others.

I am somehow still receiving texts and messages on Luke's page that people would like to help even though we have reached his goal for a service dog. This is not something we would normally do but the response has been so overwhelming that this was the best way we could continue this amazing outpouring of love.

While our family has been on Luke's journey to recovery for four years, every day brings new challenges and Luke's needs are constantly changing. Since we came home from Kentucky we have been modifying our house to make it accessible for Lucas. Luke has enjoyed the added space as it allows him to move around much easier. We are now beginning to modify our main bathroom to make that accessible for Lucas.   In September, Lucas began kindergarten which brought new challenges and victories. He transitioned in true Luke fashion- like a warrior and currently splits his days between school and therapy. He goes to school from 8:30 - 11 and then makes the hour+ trip to St. Mary's for 90 minutes of therapy.  He then makes an hour+ trip back home; Luke does this everyday without complaining (only sometimes do we have to fight him lol).

Luke continues to attend locomotor therapy at St. Mary's Hospital for Kids five days a week. However, we know that soon Luke won't be able to attend therapy as he is now because he will need to focus on being in school.  If Covid has a silver lining for our family- it's been the gift of extra time at St. Mary's, working with an amazing team who never gives up on Lucas. The thought of not being able to get to St. Mary's everyday is daunting, especially as we try to obtain equipment needed to keep Luke healthy.

This is where this page comes in...we are in the process of trying to purchase home equipment for Lucas to use when he is not able to attend therapy daily.  While we can never do what St. Mary's does for Lucas, we are hoping to give him the best chance possible at home.  Just when you think Lucas has reached the biggest point in his recovery he does something else to completely ‘wow’ you. We are hoping to continue this once Luke is not able to get to St. Mary's consistently.

Lucas has endured more in the short five years of his life than most people will in a lifetime. The thing about Lucas is that he has the gift of innocence, drive and determination. Lucas doesn’t know how to give up, when he wants to do something he most certainly finds a way.   His infectious smile, curiosity and determination will continue to guide him not only on his path of recovery, but as he faces the many mountains, valleys, and plateaus of life.  Any additional donations people make will be used to purchase equipment for Lucas as he grows, and therapies that may not be covered by insurance.

We are beyond blessed and forever in awe of all of you who have supported us and continue to support us on this journey.

xoxo
