Lukes Down Under Bite Against Cancer

Luke’s Down Under Bite Against Cancer

Facing my fears. Honouring my family. Fighting back against cancer.

Cancer changed my life twice.

The first time was when I was diagnosed with melanoma — a moment that shakes you in a way you never forget. The second time was even harder: doctors found a tumour on my kidney while my son, Alfie, was still a baby. Suddenly, life felt incredibly fragile.

Thanks to early detection, incredible medical teams, and the support of my family — especially my wife, Nicky — I’m still here. I’m still fighting. And now, I want to give something back.

In 2027, I’ll be travelling to Australia to complete a Great White Shark cage dive, something I’ve dreamed about since childhood. But this time, it’s not just a bucket‑list moment — it’s a mission. I’m turning this challenge into a fundraiser to support the charities that helped save my life and support thousands of families like mine.

My Goal

Raise £20,000 to support four cancer charities that played a role in my journey — and to help fund the challenge itself so I can complete this mission safely and meaningfully.

Why Sharks? Why This Challenge?

As a kid, I was obsessed with sharks. I read every book, watched every documentary, and dreamed of seeing a Great White in the wild.

But after two cancer diagnoses, this challenge has taken on a deeper meaning. It’s about:

- Facing fear
- Celebrating survival
- Honouring the people who helped me through
- Showing my son what resilience looks like
- Turning something terrifying into something powerful

This isn’t just a dive — it’s a statement.

‍‍ Who I’m Doing This For

I’m doing this for my family — for Nicky, who held everything together when I couldn’t, and for Alfie, who deserves a world where cancer takes fewer parents away from their children.

I’m also doing this for the thousands of families who are going through what we went through. If this fundraiser helps even one person get diagnosed earlier, supported better, or feel less alone, it will be worth every second.

Where Your Donation Goes

Your support will be split between the four cancer charities that supported me through melanoma and kidney cancer, as well as helping cover the essential costs of completing the Great White Shark dive — the challenge at the heart of this fundraiser.

The breakdown is:

- Macmillan Cancer Support — 25%
- Cancer Research UK — 25%
- Melanoma UK — 15%
- Kidney Cancer UK — 15%
- Dive Costs (Travel, Training & Equipment) — 20%

This ensures the charities receive meaningful support while also helping me complete the challenge that makes this fundraiser possible.

The Journey Ahead
Between now and 2027, I’ll be:

- Training for my PADI Open Water qualification
- Preparing physically and mentally for the dive
- Sharing updates, milestones, and behind‑the‑scenes progress
- Building a community of supporters I’m calling the Shark Squad

I’d love you to be part of this journey.

Thank You

Thank you for reading my story. Thank you for supporting these charities. And thank you for helping me turn something terrifying into something meaningful.

Together, we can make a real difference — one bite at a time.

Love Luke, Nicky, Alfie and Family xxx
