Support Luke's Battle with CML & Ongoing Care

Hi, we are the Alarcon family, raising funds for our youngest son Luke and his ongoing battle with Chronic Myeloid Leukmia (CML). His current need is to get in the care of CML Specialist and we need this kind of specialist to help make the best decisions for Luke's care. His current treatment is causing stress on his liver.

To get a CML Specialist to review his case and then possible travel down the line. Insurance and funding is a current obstacle. Our goal is to get his case reviewed by March and to work with both the specialist and his current oncologist to provide the best of care.

2-3% of all Childhood Leukemias are CML. This is extremely rare with virtually no data to make a standard of care pediatric cases. They have found that pediatric cases are very different from adults and most without a CML Specialist are treated as adults. This is subpar for care and where we have been for 4years.

He is in need of CML Specialist that has knowledge of pediatric cases. There are only a handful of these kind of specialist in the USA and even fewer with knowledge of treating pediatric cases. None are in the DFW area or in network for our insurance.

Luke was diagnosed in 2019 and many that have followed his story have witness him battling through every obstacle. Luke is 4 years into this lifelong battle and ongoing treatment at 16 years old. He is finishing highschool at home and working part time while being involved at the church. His life is interrupted nearly daily from leukemia even though he does not "look sick".

Luke is treated with TKI-Chemo pills daily. This treatment has given him rashes, stomach symptoms and fatigue. The medication stops the stem cell in his bone marrow from putting the leukemia cells into his blood. Thankfully, this treatment has worked and helped him to stay undetected for about 3years. We need to keep the switch in Luke's stem cells turned off from making the leukemia cells for as many years as possible.

Luke has visited his Oncologist every 2-3 months for 4years. He will always be in treatment for the Leukemia and is going to need life long support to get him the best care.

We need help for funding and prayers. Our family believes the power of prayer to bring miracles. Our hope and prayer is that Luke will feel the love our community and continue to find healing in their prayers.
