Family and Friends,
I say “Friends”, but we all know that Luke would consider most of you reading this to be family, because to him there is nothing more important than the people in his life. As many of you may know, and some of you may not yet know, Luke was in a serious bicycle accident on Saturday, September 19th. He was riding his e-bike home from work late in the night when a car got dangerously close to him, causing Luke to over-correct and crash his bike.
This crash caused several damaging facial abrasions, and concussion which led to a large gash in his jawline, brow-line, and damage to his esophagus and trachea. Luke lost consciousness multiple times after walking his bike home from the crash and woke up the day after his accident unable to speak. When Luke began notifying his work team of his injuries on Sunday, his friend Lauren went to check on him at his house. She then realized that he needed immediate medical attention.
When they arrived at the hospital, the doctors noticed that the internal damage to his esophagus and trachea caused a large hematoma (build-up of blood) that required emergency surgery to remove. Luke also required multiple stitches to his brow, and jawline.
Surgery went well, and after a few days on a breathing and feeding tube, Luke is now on the mend. But as many of you may understand, medical bills are not cheap. Many of us have been the beneficiaries of Luke’s generosity, and most of us know that Luke is the first person to help a friend in need, and the last person to ask for help in return. That’s why we, his Grid family, are advocating for him. If you have a dollar to spare to help cover the cost of his medical expenses, we know he will be overwhelmed with gratitude.
The year 2020 has been so tough on so many of us, and every ounce of kindness goes a long way. Thank you in advance for your generosity, and we hope you will all be seeing Luke at The Grid soon!
