There is still time to add in.
What is our aim?
We want Luke Mabb to attend and present his important and critical learnings and teachings at the 10th International Adventure Therapy Conference (IATC) in Taiwan. This International Adventure Therapy Conference is held triennially to provide a critical gathering for outdoor and adventure therapy/ health practitioners, cultural holders, academics, researchers and allied professionals and students within various fields.
(Going here: https://10iatc.org/)
Why is this important?
Luke is a cultural mentor and integral facilitator within various adventure and nature-based training spaces. He has also influenced and guided critical curriculum designs and mentored many emerging and experienced nature-based practitioners and researchers in the Outdoor Health field. Luke was the volunteer visionary in creating the 2024 Outdoor Health Australia forum which was one of the most successful and First Nations informed national forums in Australia. See here: https://vimeo.com/909687602 .
Luke has contributed endlessly to the expansion of the field of adventure therapy with limited financial return over many years. Attending this international conference would financially support Luke attending this triannual conference and importantly play a critical role in influencing the field, representing First Nations perspectives and Indigenous ways of healing on and with country. Luke will be joined by a transdisciplinary team in his presentations.
Who is Luke?
Luke is a wakka wakka man. His relationship with nature began under the wings of his mother, aunty and grandmother, a woman born on Cherbourg Mission, who held strength and knowledge in her Aboriginal heritage. His relationship with Bush Adventure Therapy began as a 14-year-old young man when he experienced a life-changing program and wanted more BAT in his life. Luke’s background is working as a n aboriginal ranger with Parks and Wildlife Tasmania, and previously worked as a aboriginal community ranger for over 10 years. Luke has been involved with the wukalina walk, the first Tasmania aboriginal cultural tourism walk in the state for the past 5 years, connecting people to country through cultural tourism at larapuna (Bay of Fires). With subsequent training in Conservation and Land Management, Public safety in Firefighting, Outdoor Guiding, Wilderness Therapy and Bush Adventure Therapy, Luke has traversed roles of Aboriginal Ranger, Mentor, Cultural leader and Facilitator within a range of services and organisations. Luke’s passion is caring for country while also caring for people, which strengthens community.
“When you are healing and connected to country, you are healing yourself, connecting to past and elders to strengthening our future generations”
What we need?
The conference is from June 27th to 2nd July so we are are eager to raise all funds ASAP. All funds raised will contribute to fights, accommodation, registration, in country costs such as food and transport and other incidentals.
We are seeking funds of $4200 that would cover all associated costs and importantly Luke will not be ‘out of pocket’ although he will be financially impacted as he will be on leave from his other work commitments during this period.
Please assist in reaching this goal. All contributions would be welcomed and appreciated. Please share widely.
Thank you!
