Hi, my name is Kristy Garzio. I am a close family friend to the Wolff family. On the morning of August 23, 2023, Lukas Walter Wolff who was beloved by many, passed away unexpectedly. He was 12 years old. He was the son of Lewis F. Wolff and Urszula (Sagan) Wolff. He is survived by his sister Zofia.
Lukas was a blessing to everyone who loved him since the day he was born. Zofia described him as “having a complex personality, with so many ideas and things to say” and “there aren’t enough words to describe how amazing he was.”
Lukas had tons of interests including farming and a love of nature. He was growing up to be an exceptional farmer which included caring for pigs, chickens and goats at a family friend’s farm. Additionally, he helped nurture a newborn goat until it was ready to be reunited with its mother last winter.
He was a true outdoorsman, even as a child. Often times he could be found doing outdoor activities which spanned hiking on outdoor walking trails, paddle boarding down the Delaware River, rock climbing, helping and looking for insects. This past summer he even surfed this at Atlantic Beach in North Carolina.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a great steward of the land. He always made it a point to leave the outdoors better than it was when he visited by removing garbage when he encountered it.
Lukas had a strong love of music. His love of music ranged from listening to classic rock on old 45’s, jamming out on the guitar in his room, and playing trumpet in the school band. His mom remembers that he would freestyle in his room to pass time. He loved his country and also had the pleasure of playing at the Iron Pig’s game for the National Anthem this summer.
He was an avid reader. He enjoyed reading books about bushcraft, field guides, nature themed adventure books and history. Some of his favorite reads were the The Sign of the Beaver, The Call of the Wild, and Hatchet. He could also be seen leafing through his father’s entomology textbook from college, Insects: Their Natural History and Diversity.
He loved to raid the candy drawers at his Aunt Kristy’s house and have chocolate streaks coming out of his mouth with candy wrappers everywhere. He had more sparklers at the fire pit than any other child and usually competed with them to have the most.
His favorite place to go was the pond at his friend Eric’s farm where he spent many hours fishing and listening to the frogs, painter’s swamp, the research side of Hawk Mountain, and the calm forest by the stream of his friend Garry’s farm. Lukas dreamed and looked forward to the day when his family could establish their own family farm where they insisted on allowing others to learn about and appreciate their natural world.
Services will be held on Thursday, August 31st at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg PA with visitation beginning at 4 pm followed by a funeral service at 6 pm. A private cremation will follow.
Any donation made will directly benefit the immediate family of Lukas to support funeral services and other expenses incurred by this horrible tragedy.
