Luka Gekić – Full Bio
Luka Gekić, 14, has demonstrated exceptional musical talent from an early age, showcasing absolute pitch by the age of two and performing publicly by three. He studies with his father, renowned international concert pianist Kemal Gekić, and his mother, respected piano instructor Courtney McLean Gekić of Peachtree City.
Luka's dedication has been recognized through numerous accolades in prestigious competitions. In 2025, he won First Place at the Georgia Music Teachers Association (GMTA) State Auditions and will perform as a Conference Recitalist at the upcoming GMTA Conference. In 2024, he secured the Bronze Medal at the International Keyboard Odyssiad & Festival in Fort Collins, Colorado, and was awarded both the Casey Lisk Memorial Endowment Piano Award and the Piano Solo Musically Advanced I First Place at the Florida Federation of Music Clubs Junior State Convention. Earlier achievements include receiving the Janice Broadhurst Artistry Award at the 2022 Atlanta Piano Festival, as well as, at just ten years old, winning the Overall Grand Prize and the Individual Musical Instrument category at the 2021 Young Talent Big Dreams contest in Miami-Dade County, sponsored by The Children’s Trust and WSVN Channel 7. Locally, Luka has competed and won the Kiwanis of Peachtree City Music & Arts Showcase four years in a row.
In addition to performing, Luka enjoys composing. In 2025, he won First Place at the state level and the Southeast Region in the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) Junior Composers Contest (Junior Class III), and will represent the state of Georgia at the upcoming 2025 NFMC National Composition Competition. In 2024, he won First Place in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Composition Competition at the Junior Level for the state of Georgia and received Honorable Mention while representing Georgia in the Southern Division of the United States.
In the summer of 2024, he was awarded a scholarship to attend the Miami International Piano Festival Summer Academy in the Italian Alps. This program, hosted at the historic Euregio Kulturzentrum Gustav Mahler in Dobbiaco/Toblach, Italy, allowed him to study under a distinguished international faculty.
Luka has participated in masterclasses with renowned artists from around the world, including Francesco Libetta, Stephen Beus, Reed Tetzloff, Dmitry Ablogin, Josu de Solaun, Misha Dacić, Ilya Itin, Julien Libeer, and Steven Osborne. He is a scholarship recipient of the Coral Gables Music Club in Miami, Florida, becoming the youngest recipient in the club’s history at age seven.
Luka is an eighth grader at Rising Starr Middle School.
